BuffaloWatch - Online Alert
System

BuffaloWatch
is a PC based emergency alert system which improves public
notification of local, state and national emergency warnings.
It provides rapid notification of emergencies issued through
the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or local officials,
state Amber Alerts for missing children and threats of severe
weather from the National Weather Service.
The application
can either run fully open on your desktop or as a minimized
application – showing the current temperature –
in your system tray. The system will sit idle on your personal
computer until an alert is issued. When an emergency is declared,
it will sound a warning through the PC, followed by a pop-up
screen explaining the type of emergency. You can reduce the
screen after receiving the alert, however updated information
will immediately scroll across the bottom of the screen.

Alert Application Operation
To Minimize the
window, just click on the X in the upper right corner. The
current temperature will be displayed in your Windows task
bar.
To Maximize the
window again, double-click on the red siren icon or the current
temperature display, like those circled in red above.
During severe weather
warnings, you will receive a text crawl directly on your computer
much like those you are familiar with seeing on television.
The crawl is preceded by an audible alert sound, to bring
attention to your computer.
All you need is
an Internet connection. No web browser, such as Internet Explorer
or Netscape, is required to receive the benefits of the BuffaloWatch
Alert System.
